Doctor to receive CSC's Young Alumni Award

One of the first graduates of the Rural Health Opportunities Program founded by Chadron State College and the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Dr. Jeff King, will receive CSC’s Distinguished Young Alumni Award during homecoming activities Saturday.

Dr. King is a 1990 graduate of Gordon High School. After attending CSC three years, he graduated from UNMC in 1997 and spent the next three years in residency. He joined the staff at Saint Francis Medical Center in Grand Island in December 2001.

In 2004, Dr. King was selected as the Nebraska Medical Association’s Young Physician of the Year. Specifically, he was recognized for his role in assisting victims of a devastating fire in Wood River, Neb., in late 2003.

Afterwards, Dr. Mike Horn, vice president for medical affairs at St. Francis, said “I have never, ever, remotely had as many people in as many different areas; as many different disciplines; go more out of their way to make sure that I knew what an incredible job Jeff King was doing.”

Dr. King’s wife, the former Jennifer Vogel, is also a medical doctor. She is a native of Auburn, Neb., They were in the same class at UNMC and have three small children.
